Five on Friday | Christmas Songs

After an unfortunate lengthy absence from my Five on Friday, I'm back with my five favorite Christmas songs. I adore Christmas music, so it's very hard for me to pick out five, but, here you go. Enjoy the sounds this season!!

• Anything by Manheim Steamroller. As the only one in my family that likes them, I don't get to listen to these nearly often enough during the season.
• Mary did you know? Kutless
• End of the beginning. David Phelps - Not just a Christmas song, but I love listening to this one at this time of year.
• Miss you most at Christmas time. Mariah Carey - Losing a daughter and a daddy at Christmas time, this song reduces me to tears every time.
• All the carols my girls sing. Love listening to them singing about "Harp the Harold Angel," "Gloria in a special eggo," and "Go rest gentlemen."

 

 

Five on Friday

 

My girls have been making me laugh lately. So for this Five on Friday, here's my five favorite things they've said lately:

• Hailey: "So me and Morgan and Hannah and Alexa and some big girls started the Green Green Girls Club. We call it that, because green is for the world, and we love the world. And because green is our favorite color."
• Kahlee, after picking her up from school and the teacher telling me she hit her friend, and me asking her why she did that: "Um, cause the doorbell is bwoken at our house, an' that make me reawwy mad."  (side note . . . said doorbell has been fixed for weeks now, I somehow think she was just trying to distract me!)
• Kahlee: "I wub you Mommy, you my fwiend." Me: "But I'm your Mommy." Kahlee: "Ok, that's awright, you my Mommy fwiend."
• Hailey, after a "do you believe in Santa Claus" conversation (I'm pretty mad at the girl in her class who told her there was no Santa): "Mommy, does God believe in Santa?"
• Hailey received an award in chapel this past Wednesday, which I found out about the week before. Last year, when the hubby and I went to chapel for her, she pitched a HUGE fit when it was time for us to leave. Hence I was very afraid of going again this year! She happened to ask me randomly if I would come to her chapel sometime, and I said I didn't think so, because of what happened last year. She just looked at me, and said: "Mommy, that was last year, when I was five. I'm six now."

Five on Friday | Popular Comments

It's time for another Five on Friday! Today I'm going to give you the Top Five Comments we hear when people walk in the door of our shop . . .

• "OH. MY. GOSH. It smells soooo good in here!"
• "Oh, wow, what am I smelling?"  (Side note, Ahem, note the name of the store)
• "Your shop is so adorable!" (this one is usually surrounded with a few squeals of delight)
• "You should get a fan and blow this smell out into the streets, you'd have droves of people in here."
• "I heard your cookies are the best in Tampa Bay, so I just had to come try them for myself."

Five on Friday | Sample Tray Etiquette

Hurray! It's time for Five on Friday! If you missed last week, we're joining Stacey Woods for Five on Friday. This is five of anything, my choice, that I'll share with you on Fridays. Just for fun.

With fall on its way, hopefully sometime soon, we're thinking about all of the fun festivals that go on downtown. Everyone LovES our sample trays at the festivals; however, I feel some etiquette training is in order. Thus my Five on Friday - sample tray etiquette.

• Do not pick up a sample after you've just sneezed and wiped your nose with your hand, then on your pants. The people behind you may not have seen that, but we did.
• It's not appropriate to ask a random, unrelated question, just so you feel justified in continuing to eat samples while we respond to you.
• No need to pretend the handful you're taking is for your spouse, parent, or friend who's nowhere around. You're not fooling us, or yourself.
• Remind your child (or grandparent) to take the one they touched. The one they touched first. Before that one. Aw, heck, they might as well take all three now.
• It's a sample tray, not a buffet. Enough said.

Five on Friday | five favorites about my kahlee girl

I was so intrigued by my sweet friend Stacey Woods' blog project, Five on Friday, that I wanted to join in. Just can't help myself. So here's the deal . . . every Friday we're all sharing five of something - five whatevers. Maybe my five favorite ways to eat cookies . . . or five things you probably didn't know about me . . . or five things from the kiddos or the hubby . . . or five things to do with cookies - you know I'm full of ideas about cookies, so I'm sure they will grace this project a LoT!!

This week, for many reasons, has just been a tough week. You know how sometimes you just feel you're getting beaten from all sides? This was one of those weeks. And the knockout punch was something someone said regarding my sweet Kahlee girl and our journey to make her a permanent part of our family, legally speaking. It put me to the mat. And so, for my first Five on Friday, I'm going with five favorite things about my Kahlee.

1. I melt when she says, "I wuf you Mommy." And then when she goes on to, "And I wuf Daddy, and I wuf Yaya (her sister), and I wuf Mats (Max, the dog), and I wuf your new shoes (had them for years), and I wuf my room, and I wuf my fwiends, and I wuf my teachers, and I just wuf everyone."
2. I love how tough she is. Trip and fall? Doesn't care, she's right back up and on with it. Tell her she can't do something? She'll show you right now that she can (ok, so I don't always love that part of it). I think she'll be one of those little girls who is always getting her clothes dirty and who is always beating up the boys. But then she'll hug them when she's done. And tell them she wuf's them.
3. Her new favorite thing is Bumbumbum - that is, bubblegum. And she's sneaky with it. And she thinks it's a meal. Unfortunately, because of those things, she probably has 3/4 of a pack of Trident and about six feet of bubble gum tape in the bottom of her belly.
4. I love her deep belly laugh, when she gets really tickled by something. Still some of that baby giggle, and it sounds like it's coming from way deep inside, like she's just completely happy from the inside out.
5. I love that she's been a part of our family for almost two and a half out of her three and a half years, and to me she's been here always. That when I look at her I see my daughter, and when she looks at me she sees her Mama. And that's all there is to it.
