In my efforts towards organizing my girls' rooms, I wanted bulletin boards so they could hang up those things that are currently important to them. Right now I should have stock in Scotch tape for as much as my girls use hanging up their creations. I didn't want a traditional bulletin board with pins, for obvious reasons, and I wanted something more trendy than the fabric covered boards with the ribbons. Since I couldn't find what I was looking for, I decided to make my own! This is how it turned out . . . and I'll give you instructions to make your own below!
What do you think?! It was super easy to make. I started with a 24" x 24" piece of sheet metal, purchased from Home Depot for $13. I bought 1/4 yard of patterned fabric, and a spool of coordinating ribbon. The choices are endless here, just make sure the fabric you choose is thin enough that magnets can still stick through it.
Cut the sheet metal in half with a pair of metal shears (also called tin snips if you have to go get some). For mine, I cut another 5" off the top of the board to make it the size I wanted. You can change this depending on the width of your fabric, just make sure your fabric takes up over half of the board, for aesthetic purposes. Drill two holes in the top for hanging.
Cut your fabric so that it fits all the way around the metal, and overlaps slightly on the back. Using modpodge, cover the back of the fabric, being sure to get all the edges covered. Lay your fabric over the metal, and smooth it out all over so it adheres. Do the same with your ribbon, overlapping the ribbon on the fabric slightly so you don't have to worry about uneven edges. Take a length of ribbon and tie it through each of the holes, making a knot on the front of the board. You can make this any length depending on where you're hanging it. Pick out some fun magnets, and you're ready to go!!

This is such a cute idea! I bet the girls love it! It would make a good and easy gift for some of my girlfriends too:)

Great minds think alike! I had a similar idea but with sheet pans, the ones with the holes on the sides. They are too cute!

How do you make the holes in the sheet metal?

Miss Madras, very creative to think of using sheet pans!! I love it! Jenny, just use a drill and it will easily make the holes.
